Snowmobiling in Yellowstone
Snowmobiling in Yellowstone Under Study Again

For over a decade snowmobilers have been fighting to keep snowmobiling open in Yellowstone National Park. Snowmobilers ride on the same roads that motor vehicles use in the summer and many rate the winter experience much higher. A new Draft Winter Use Plan/Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement was released on June 29, 2012 proposing four alternatives for winter use. Although there is no scientific evidence of impairment from snowmobiles under the present standards, the Park’s preferred alternative will require yet quieter, cleaner snowmobiles.
The comment period on the latest draft plan ends on August 20th     extended to October 7, 2012 The American Council of Snowmobile Associations has put together a sample comment ketter which can be found below.  Only mailed comments postmarked no later than August 20th  October 7, 2012  (only one letter per envelope) or electronic comments will be accepted. To comment electronically (also due on August 20th October 7th)  view the draft plan and keep up on the process, visit http://parkplanning.nps.gov/yell. and click on 2012 Supplemental Winter Use Plan EIS.
